Just keep singing…
So Finding Dory is about to hit the British big screen, and I’ve started back on the gig scene!
As the last two years have been deliberately quiet on the performing front, I thought I would need a bit of time to get back into the swing of things. Turns out time waits for no woman.
It seems that no performance is without its hiccups. Even Coldplay had their share of drama at Wembley. So if it can happen to the best of us, it must happen more than we think.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of singing for an anniversary event in Portslade, and everything was looking great before we started. Once on stage however, we discovered the microphone was off, and that set of a mini-chain of events that would have left me in a frozen panic, had I been my one-year-ago self.
The same sound demons came out in full force last week at an event in Basildon. I don’t think I have ever used so many microphones in one set before! Yet surprisingly, I had so much fun!
I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed the chaos of the crackling speakers, flimsy mic-stands and temperamental mics! Sure, I couldn’t hear myself, and I probably sang off key a few times, but I loved it!
There were many things to panic about, and I guess there always will be. But I’ve learned a little trick to get through those times when laughter and tears threaten to toss a coin and break their boundaries.
So the next time you’re in a situation where things are spiralling out of your control and you can’t tell the sea from the seaweed, just remember the wise words of that famous blue fish and you’ll see yourself plain sailing in no time.
Just keep singing…just keep singing…just keep singing, singing, singing…
